When people think Star Trek , they think vast universes, hours of rich story and game play, and a cast of characters that rival games such as Final Fantasy and Star Wars , yeah… this is not that game.
Star Trek D.A.C (that’s Deathmatch Assault Conquest) is a top down shooter that gets straight to the point. There is no story, no single player campaign, not much of anything for that matter, all this game really consists of are pure skirmish matches. Make no mistake about it though, what this game lacks in complexity, it more than makes up for in learning curve. When you start the game you are given a choice to either play as the Federation or as the Romulans , aside from aesthetic differences in the ships, there is no big difference between the two, the game has power-ups scattered throughout the map that can give anyone the ability to cloak, have homing missles, and power regeneration. Once you choose who you want to play as and you choose your ship, you start the game and pray that you don’t get blasted to oblivion within the first 15 seconds of gameplay, (for the record, my average lifespan in the game was about 10 seconds) because for some reason the A.I tends to be ridiculously accurate.
There are three main modes of gameplay as mentioned in the title. The first one is Team Deathmatch, thats a pretty straight forward six on six battle, first team to reach 50 points wins. The second one Assault, this mode will give one team four points in the map that they must gain control of, and the second team must defend those four points. The final mode is Conquest, in this mode one team is given a headquarters, the goal of the other team is do bring down that headquarter’s defences and take over it completely.
All in all this game can be pretty fun when playing with all your buddies for a few hours, but due to the lack of depth in this game, I doubt it will last much longer than that. If this game had a ranking system, or even the ability to unlock maps, it would of greatly helped out its lasting appeal.-Gerardo
