CutmanMike, a.k.a. Mike Hill, a video game modder from the U.K. has been posting screen shots and videos of a very interesting project called Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch.  MM8BDM is a Doom II mod that uses sprites, weapons, and characters from the NES era Mega Man games.  See for yourself:
