Fans of things with vampires as well as MMO-schlubs should beware. Ignited Games is bringing back(?) DarkEden, the world’s first (and only?) Retro- MMO Vampire themed role-playing- game. Dark Eden’s closed beta test is now up and running, and available to all you crazy kids with your fishnet stockings and plastic fangs. At launch time for the final release product, Ignited will be rewarding the loyal closed beta testers with special in-game items. It seems that items and other rewards will unlock as a player progresses through the Beta, so the more one plays, the more rewards for the player once the game is released. Players who report in-game bugs on the forum will also earn additional rewards.

DarkEden presents itself as a throwback, old-school style game from the the “golden age” of MMORPGs, featuring hack-and-slash, dungeon crawler combat and stunning isometric 2D visuals. So in other words a Diablo clone meets an Ultima Online clone, which actually may not be such a bad idea, if done right. The game is set in the fictional eastern European country of Eslania (why not?), players choose between three available races, including Vampires, Slayers and Ousters, which sound like some sort of beast-men or possibly werewolves. The factions will battle for control of Eslania. Each race have distinctive gameplay mechanic, as well as unique lore based character progression, including but not limited to a Vampire’s need to drink blood as a means for experience point gain. Why do I feel like the RP servers are gonna get real kinky, real fast.
Online gamers can now choose their side and join the fight between the living and undead and um… hairy in DarkEden by visiting the game’s website at “http://dk.ignitedgames.com”.
