[Welcome to "What the fuck are you doing?!", a segment in which I will hopefully inform you of coolish events happening during the week. CAUTION: a lot of these will involve you being outside away from your consoles for at least small portions of a day]
[June 29-July 2] anime-expo.org
Anime Expo
The biggest thing geek-centric coming up is the annual Anime Expo, literally one of the biggest anime-focused cons in our country and always a really fun time. Each year there are several tourneys held in various fighting games (yes, even Smash…and no, not just brawl), a usually fairly decent rave (in fact there’s one held every night, save the last) that usually takes place in hotel ballrooms or the club above the Nokia Theatre (which has some really fucking fancy bathrooms, like seriously, they have those dudes that dry your hands for you and then subsequently make you feel super guilty for not tipping them), and to top it all off, each year features a large concert held in the Nokia Theatre from a (usually) big name japanese artist or pop group/band; last year Hatsune Miku held a holographic concert that was apparently pretty cool if you’re into Vocaloid junk. And if you’re not into any of the above, you can always just go to gawk at some of the amazing cosplay, and laugh viciously at the inherently shitty ones. Its a 24 hour con, and a fantastic way to usher in summer, if you’re going leave a comment and maybe we can hang!
[June 23] UCB Theatre
Double Jump @ the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre
Double Jump is talk show for gamers and non gamers to come together and converse (as one would expect from a talk show). I don’t know much about the venue as I’ve never gone personally, but I do know that its previously sold out twice; so maybe its pretty good. Double Jump is hosted by Christian Spicer and Jeff Cannata, and takes place at 11:30pm this Saturday.
aaaaaannd thats it!….for this week at least, hopefully some more stuff pops up next week! (although I probably won’t be around due to anime expo)
