Nintendo gives birth to the 3DS’ chubby brother: the 3DS XL

Lets be honest here, we all knew this was coming, many of us have been joking around about it for ages, and now the big red N finally shows off the goods. Sometime last night, Nintendo broke news of the impending arrival of the 3DS LL. With a new 4.88 inch top screen, 4.14 inch touch screen, sleek new rounded redesign, and a price point of $199.99 the 3DS’ big brother is looking to follow in its large bodied cousin’s footsteps. Curiously enough, in Japan the units won’t be shipping with a power adapter; and while there was a bit of confusion as to if North American units would suffer the same odd treatment, it can now be confirmed that on our shores we’ll be recieving the whole package, charger and all. In addition to the usual components, each 3DS LL will also come with a 4GB SD card (pretty generous on Nintendo’s part), which goes to show Nintendo seems to be putting a bit of faith into their digital distribution platform; a wise move considering how many great titles have come out of the eShop, with even more on the horizon. The 3DS LL hits store shelves on August 19th (hey just a day after my birthday!) and will intially be available in red/black or blue/black, kinda dissappointed we won’t be getting a crisp white model like japan, but if it means I don’t have to buy my own charger I’ll deal.
